Cocktail Culture

I saw an illustrated ad: 4000 square feet in the sky, Pedini cabinets and Luxtouch tiles— a fine retreat for my enterprise. (Rents are high but I think I’ll get by.) I like to jump at opportunities: watching the girls on Museum Mile, with their acrylic platform shoes and their Coco smiles, stopping to check their phones once in a while. (I think of myself as their private eye.) That’s where I snag them on a Saturday night. Their uptown strut turns all sweetness and light. When they open their eyes they find themselves in paradise. Preparations aside you sometimes have to improvise. Fun and games with the ones I love. It’s puppet play with plastic gloves. I like to spend my days with my favorite girls.

Low Country 03:35
So much beer and wine, It’s all that’s on my mind. Out here on the patio, when she calls to me, she calls me Daddy-O. Pour another glass, the next one could be your last. You better hold on tight, gonna hit you with all my might. You’re my ball and chain, rusting in the rain. One day I’ll be free of my family. Strange vibes and strange lovers and strange times down here in low country.

I live in a country of treachery and lies. In the streets where people are walking with eyes much like the skies. Me and my baby out there walking, walking through the park at night. See some people in there talking, just looking to pick a fight. I waited so long for something to change. It just keeps on getting darker as the clouds begin to drain. I will lie down in my bed and wait for someone to take me away. No one needs you when you’re dead, you’re one with the river, they say. I waited so long for something to change. I get thirsty, I get tired, the days are long and the lights are strange.

Africa 05:48
The rain kept me praying and I winced at every railing. My servants had abandoned me but I myself I could not flee. For all my wealth I was never free but the stars they smile at me. I was resting in the fields last night, the darkness seemed light. I stumbled over dreams of old and the trees were made of gold, gold for loves they’d sold. But the stars they shine in me. My Africa is red and brown. I have yet to find my hometown. The air is like frozen life, You can cut it with a knife, and the sailor plays his fife and the stars they guide him. Among the oaks and cypress trees in the garden of release, I jumped from stone to stone, carrying my bag of bones, seeking out a quiet zone, and the stars they smile at me.

Five flights up, two doors down, past Angie’s and Rachel’s boudoir. my heart yearns for red wine, San Francisco, Miami and New York. Sometimes death comes into the dark with its bright and multicolored sparks and shines a light into my dark Swedish room The engine stalls on George St. Ran every red light in town. Every day more happy, more carefree, more lovely and divine Sometimes death comes into the dark with its bright and multicolored sparks (you don’t think he’s come too soon) and shines a light into my dark Swedish room

Superman 06:13
I’m at the screen again. Been working like some machine. And you are not my friends. No no no, I’ve lost everyone of them to a mean-hearted son of the devil. I’m not Superman but I have seen him once and he looked just like me with his brilliant shiny tan and his teeth they shone. I carry loaded guns each day one in each of my hands and when I look into the sun I can hear my favourite band, playing that same old song... Oh superman where are we? Who are your friends, all these lovely party friends? Like it or not, we live in different worlds, but in the final end we will be together again. When I reach out for it it just floats and stares. Is it a counterfeit, supposed to get me scared of the possibilities in science? And if you think that we’re done with you, hang on... hang on tight... I live in a box underneath the stairs. I work in the docks and my share is fair, though my family is a sly one. Oh superman where are we? Where are your friends, all your lovely party friends? Like it or not, (who are your friends?) we live in different worlds, but in the final end we will be together again. Oh superman where are you? Where are your friends, all your lovely party friends? Like it or not, (who are your friends?) we live in different worlds, but in the final end we will be together again.

Best Friends 03:27
You’re wrapped around my body like a baby leopard, you block the sunrise, you bite my head off and offer no reward— get someone your own size. What if you were a pillow that I could lay my head upon? I could give you pretty dreams— no request is too extreme! And maybe just for fun, I could be your enemy? And maybe just for fun, you could be my amputee? We will end up in the street, if we live that long. We will build ourselves a house, but we won’t live in it. I really think we should. I could get used to this.

Night Flight 06:10
It’s the fourteenth day. No end in sight. Can’t say I know which is left or right. And whiskey was my first aid kit. My cigarette burned the rest of it. Take a dream and make it fly. (I’ve been waiting for a hundred years.) Just the best of friends holding out, weathering a storm. Say goodbye now. The softest touch of sleeping bags and the quiet rain as the skin began to crawl and the million ants on my walls stood me up once and for all. Take a dream and make it fly. (I’ve been waiting for a hundred years.) Just the best of friends holding out, weathering a storm. Say goodbye now.
